supplies and veterinary care if you can provide a safe, temporary living space, love and attention.

 

Requirements for fostering:

 

• If you don’t own your own home, we ask that you provide written permission from your landlord.

• If fostering a dog, you must be able to provide a safe area where the dog can move around while tethered.

• Animals must live indoors. Cats will not be allowed outside.

• Cats require a litter box. One will be provided if needed.

• Any pets currently residing with you must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.

• The duration the animal is with you may vary from a predetermined amount of time (one day to several months) or until the animal is adopted.

Why do you need foster homes for animals?

​

• La Crescent Animal Rescue (LAR) has limited shelter for animals, so there are times we depend on foster homes to care for animals until suitable homes are found. Most dogs at La Crescent Animal Rescue are placed into foster care upon their arrival - we prefer the more stable and home-like atmosphere of foster homes. Please contact us to schedule an appointment to meet a dog!

• An animal is too young to be adopted and needs a safe place to stay until they are old enough to go to a forever home.

• An animal is recovering from surgery, illness or injury and needs a safe place to recuperate.

• An animal is showing signs of stress such as pacing or hiding in the shelter.

• An animal has not lived in a home before or has not had much contact with people and needs to be socialized.​

Why should I foster an animal?

 

Fostering an animal temporarily in your home will:​

• Free up a spot so LAR can take in another animal.

• Give your foster animal the time they need to be ready for adoption.

• Help LAR learn more about the animal so we can identify the best home possible.

• Socialize the animal in a home environment, meet different types of people and (possibly) other pets.
